Obama Senior State Department Official Waves the Big White Flag “The war on terror is over”

In an article in the current National Journal called “The Post Al Qaida Era,” I write that the Obama administration is taking a new view of Islamist radicalism. The president realizes he has no choice but to cultivate the Muslim Brotherhood and other relatively “moderate” Islamist groups emerging as lead political players out of the Arab Spring in Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere. (The Muslim Brotherhood officially renounced violence decades ago, leading then-dissident radicals such as Ayman al-Zawahiri to join al Qaida.)

It is no longer the case, in other words, that every Islamist is seen as a potential accessory to terrorists. “The war on terror is over,” one senior State Department official who works on Mideast issues told me. “Now that we have killed most of al Qaida, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.”

The new approach is made possible by the double impact of the Arab Spring, which supplies a new means of empowerment to young Arabs other than violent jihad, and Obama’s savagely successful military drone campaign against the worst of the violent jihadists, al Qaida.

Labor union sues Indiana, calls working alongside nonunion employees ‘slavery’

In a lawsuit against three Indiana government officials, a labor union alleged on Wednesday that its constitutional rights under the Thirteenth Amendment — which outlawed “slavery” and “involuntary servitude” — are violated whenever its members are forced to work alongside nonunion employees.

The International Union of Operating Engineers, whose members work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics and construction surveyors, sued Indiana’s governor, attorney general, and labor commissioner in February, alleging that the state’s “right to work” law is unconstitutional.

More Liberal Hypocrisy: Elizabeth Warren Admits She Didn’t Pay Higher Taxes

Senate challenger Elizabeth Warren opted not to voluntarily pay higher taxes to the state of Massachusetts, prompting Republican Sen. Scott Brown to label her a hypocrite after she blasted his opposition to President Barack Obama’s “Buffett rule.”

Warren, a Democrat, said Friday she didn’t pay a higher income tax rate on her Massachusetts tax return. The state gives taxpayers the option of paying 5.85 percent, rather than the standard 5.3 percent rate.

“I paid my taxes and I did not make a charitable contribution to the state,’’ Warren said, according to the Associated Press.

Homes abandoned amid riot warnings in Chicago

Obama has ties to radicals plotting chaos for NATO summit

In a sign of what may be coming, residents of a Chicago condo building located near the site of next month’s NATO summit have been asked to leave for the event or risk being caught in a storm of rioters.

WND first reported in August 2011 that radicals, some with ties to President Obama, were planning to riot during the NATO summit.

FOX Chicago News reported the people living in the 17-floor Library Tower building at 520 South State Street were warned in a letter from condo management that “we are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find places to stay during the conference from May 18 through May 21.”

SOPA mutates into much worse CISPA, the latest threat to internet free speech

Just because SOPA and PIPA, the infamous internet “kill switch” bills, are largely dead does not mean the threat to internet free speech has become any less serious. The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), also known as H.R. 3523, is the latest mutation of these internet censorship and spying bills to hit the U.S. Congress — and unless the American people speak up now to stop it, CISPA could lead to far worse repercussions for online free speech than SOPA or PIPA ever would have.

CNET, the popular technology news website that was among many others who spoke up against SOPA and PIPA earlier in the year, is also one of many now sounding the alarm about CISPA, which was authored by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.). Though the bill’s promoters are marketing it as being nothing like SOPA or PIPA, CISPA is exactly like those bills, except worse.

Scandals sidetrack Obama campaign

A salacious scandal involving US Secret Service agents cavorting with prostitutesin Colombia ahead of last week’s presidential visit has overshadowed Barack Obama’s efforts to build his re-election campaign.

But more significantly, the scandal, which has run in parallel with revelations of overspending by the federal government’s property agency, is further corroding public respect for the country’s governing institutions.
